The “Garden Cube” makes a 4 ft X 4 ft footprint but with 4 sides as well as a top for planting, it offers 80 sq ft of planting area and produces a great deal of food. There is a huglekultur core of logs, sticks, leaves and compost. Then comes the soil. This one is planted with strawberries around the sides that do not get damaged by ground moisture and slugs. There are lots of chives that come back every year and varieties of lettuce that pop up from the seeds from last year’s crop. The photos below below document the growth using permaculture principles over 6 weeks.
